PKAVS Carers Hub have been developing a short breaks programme called Respitality. This is an initiative pioneered by the Scottish Government and Shared Care Scotland. It involves carer’s centre's building relationships with local business to secure gifts, such as overnight stays, tickets, meals out etc. Once gifts are secured they will then be matched with unpaid carers who are on the Respitality waiting list.

Although not exhaustive, the role will involve:

• Uploading referrals to Respitality Spreadsheet
• Contacting carers to match them with gifts and post out confirmations
• Admin work involved with gathering carer feedback after breaks
• A willingness to help make contact with local businesses and organisations to promote Respitality and secure commitment which will benefit carers

 Skills and Attributes:

• No experience is necessary, however good people skills and a friendly personality is essential. Skills in IT would also be beneficial as this role will involve updating Excel spreadsheets and working with Microsoft Word.
• To be reliable and flexible.

When:

• Days and times can be flexible to suit a volunteer but would have to fit in with PKAVS Carers Hub operational hours, weekdays between the hours of 9am – 5pm.

Commitment:

We would ask volunteers to make a commitment towards:

• Working within the aims and objectives of the Organisation.
• Working within the Organisation’s policy on confidentiality.
• Attending regular training, support and supervision sessions.
• Informing us as soon as is practicably possible if you are unable to attend a session due to illness or for any other reason on your chosen day(s).

Support and Accountability:

• Volunteers will be accountable to the Respite Development Officer.
• Initial induction training will be given (Health and Safety induction with Building Maintenance Officer).
• Ongoing support and supervision will be offered
• Ongoing training opportunities designed to improve the effectiveness of volunteer involvement and respond to the needs of volunteers will be arranged throughout the year and participation will be encouraged whenever possible.

Recognition:

We recognise that volunteers bring invaluable experience to organisations like Perth & Kinross Carers Hub.  In return we offer volunteer expenses, facilitate ongoing training with a view to enhancing personal and professional development, we will also give employment references if requested.  We fully encourage volunteers to suggest improvements to existing services and encourage a sense of belonging to the overall team.

The offer of volunteering is subject to two satisfactory references and a satisfactory Disclosure Scotland check (protecting vulnerable groups).
